Re: [bolger] Lightning protection & Insurance & Keel anxiety

I've thought of the ultimate lightning protection!!!
Insurance!! Admittedly it wouldn't be all that comforting if you are on the boat
at the time of strike..
Seriously though, all of the talk of lightning and my boat nearing completion
(target launch date September) brought me around to insurance.
I asked for a quote from a marine insurance company for my Micro giving the
details below..

Europe from Brest to Elbe

And got a quote for under a hundred dollars a year with no mention of a survey
which includes a massive third party liability (nearly $3m).. I was expecting a
far more expensive premium!!

Has anybody else out there had any problems getting thier Micro insured... Has
anybody had to make a claim? Was a survey required?

Daniel
PS I poured my keel last weekend (and am still choking from my homebuilt coal
furnace which I used!! Bad idea!!) Now that I have felt the weight of the keel,
I cannot quite believe that the ply and batten will not just come away from the
boat... Ye of little faith
