For Newbies, Stefan has a website about his Seabird:

In the plans Ph. Bolger says that it must be lead, because other
material is not heavy enough.
I remember that I've needed nearly 500 Kg of lead. In 1998 the price for
the plans, including discription
and plans for the gaff- and doghouse version was 220$.

Perhaps this group needs a FAQ? :)

Your lament/question has been asked many times. From our perspective,
(considering how many people love Phil Bolger's designs), putting out
a design list makes wonderful sense.

But from their perspective, I bet, that a design list would generate
*so* many time consuming inquiries that their 'normal life' could
easily be drastically interrupted. I can perfectly understand that
life is short, and setting priorities is a personal decision.

There is, of course, oure group Bolger design database.

At:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bolger/database?method=reportRows&tbl=3&sortBy=1&sortDir=down&startAt=&prntRpt=1

This database, of ours, is collectively maintained. So, all group
members are encouraged to put some work into making our database
better and more complete.
Thanks!...what rig did he decide on? I can't say I'd be all that enthused about the dipping lug. The Chinese lug looks good though.

It would be so helpful if PCB&F simply typed out a piece of paper with the design name, design number, number of sheets, and price. I'd even volunteer to type it if PCB wanted to dictate it to me over the phone.

Yes, he must have been drawing ingots in BWAOM. That makes sense.

As I remember, the original drawing shows the hollow keel stuffed with
lead ingots. A pour would be better, of course.

About 1,100 lbs of lead. A very basic "on it's side" keel mold pour.

A fellow Bolger group board member that occasionally posts here bought 1,200 lbs of lead from me this spring to get started on his Seabird 86. He's somewhere in central CA. *Are you out there? How about an update?*

Anyway, last I checked Seabird 86 plans were $300, I think with the pilothouse version sketch included.

Go here for some pics of a Seabird 86 keel pour;

No, Bolger never has published a price or plans list, yet somehow plans get bought and boats get built....

Ordinarily, I would assume that it was lead but the drawing in BWAOM
doesn't look as though it's lead. Has anyone ordered the plans and
know how much they are? To my knowledge, PCB and F have never produced
even one sheet of paper listing plans available and their prices.
Perhaps I just haven't been paying attention.
