OT: Shorty Pen Web Sit: Need Paint /Glass Advise on Folbot Kit
Bolgerists
Shorty Pen has a great website with stories of the many boats he
built/rebuilt/saved. Try his essay on types of sailors:

Highly recommended.
I am getting ready to glass/paint my 15'4" plywood Folbot kit boat
rebuild. The glass is doubled on the bottom and looks good still on
the bottom and the top decking (mostly). I will have to glass both
sides though, and the gunnels (after I sand, sand, sand some more).
The glass just delaminated from the plywood- which still looks great
after I peeled off/sanded off the old glass and resin and paint from
both sides. I guess it pulled off so readily from the wood was because
of the very curved plywood panels making up the sides of the boat.
I have a TAP plastic store near me and plan to buy their poly resin
and normal weight glass. I can't tell if originally the side panels
had two layers of glass or just one. But the boat is plenty heavy
already I think.
Any tips on paint? So far I have ~$100 USD in the boat so I want to
keep costs low. Recommened oil-based paint or latex paint? Brand paint
you had good luck with? I am located in superior California.
Love the stories and pictures of the Micros and Long Micros. Wonderful
boats.
For commercial sailboats I like the look of the O'days and the Com
Pacs. Sort of clorox-bottle Micros. You can imagine yourself sailing
off to anywhere.
