[bolger] The turning of the Tapaz
Well, we got that far. Sanded and faired the bottom today. Then
painted it this afternoon with bottom paint, leaving 5 inches shy of
the chine so as to glass the sides. I spent some time trying to find
extra hands to do this job. No one was home or they were going to a
meeting. Sounds fishy, but they were I think. I paid a high school
student ten bucks to help and he did a great job. The two of us with
the help of a couple of floor jacks got the bottom down to the floor at
which time we struggled it up on the side with my wife helping in the
balancing part. Then we worked around to the other side and realized
that with two only, one of us could become a casualty. As I said
earlier, she is heavy. All went well. Now to the point which really
prompted me to write. A more beautiful bow could not be found. The
protruding cutwater which I had doubts about is outstanding. The only
thing that would make it more antique would be to build in large barbs
out from it to sink enemy ships like those of biblical times. To
attest to the design, was to hear this 16 year old carry on as to how
cool she was looking. The bulkheads and sides go on in the morning.
Carry on and will be bake. P.S. My wife is prompting me to do a
sculpture that comes up from the bow.
