[bolger] Re: files

This is a brilliant scheme to satisfy the boat-building jones! I keep
trying to convince my friends and neighbors they want little bolger
crab skiffs, but to no avail :-(

Every Summer we have the Rel Sun memorial surf contest which raises
money for L.I. Breast Cancer Research. Maybe they want to raffle off
a proa!

Tortoise handled the small waves very well, it rose up over the
swells like a cork. You have to make sure you sit centrally to keep
the trim right of course. I took a bit of splash on board getting
through the break, but it kept me supprisingly dry. I wouldn't take
her out through waves any bigger than those in the pictures though.
I added a large boyancy/storage compartment in at the back, and also
modified rudder, attaching it to a plate that hinges off the top of
the transom, to allow me to launch in shallow water. The Nymph was
put together by Uwe Erfurt and myself, Uwe did the hull and I did the
finishing, rigging etc. I wanted to help my wife raise money for the
Leukaemia foundation by building a boat to raffle, so after much head
scratching, decided on the Nymph. Boatcraft Pacific of Brisbane
kindly supplied the dear stuff (plywood, epoxy and paint), I think
they deserve a plug! Everything else was donated by local
businesses. We have raised $1500 in our first month without trying
too hard, the boat really attracts attention. I will attach my only
picture to the file of the completed boat - one of the interior to
follow soon. I decided on Nymph because of its more traditional
appearance - I didn't think the public was ready for anything too
unconventional. So to all you boat builders out there that would
love to build another Bolger boat without having to pay, (well, not
too much anyway), give it a go and raise some money for a good
cause. You'll at least get to sail her once during sea trials.
Best of luck with your Oldshoe, I've been following your progress
from afar. I built a Skimmer with the daughters boyfriend, and am
about to start on a Micro. Trailers getting sandblasted as we
speak. Spar timber is downstairs. I think I have a problem......

Sorry group, just found the help section under my files notification
in the list. Whoops.

Hi group,
Can someone please tell me how to add my attachments to
the file I just created??? (Nymph and Tortoise file) The files help
did not work and the Yahoo groups help kept me waiting for 10 minutes
so I gave up. I'm sure its easy but....

Thanks

Gregg-

Don't you mean 640x480? <g> Actually, it's the file size that matters, not
the image dimensions, as far as the archives are concerned. Usually there's
not much point in putting up files with dimensions bigger than most
people's screens (800x600 is the most popular at the moment, IIRC), but
sometimes it's useful so we can make out details. If I had my druthers I'd
like to see larger image sizes compressed more to make smaller file sizes,
even at the supposed expense of quality, rather than smaller images
compressed less, they're easier on my now middle-aged eyes (just turned
fifty :o( ). I run a 1024x768 screen, which makes the small images look
even tinier.

So, watch the _file size_, but try to make your images big enough to see.
If you're posting stuff like lines drawings or plans reduce the number of
colors to 16 and save as a GIF, it'll be smaller than a JPEG and look
better to boot, JPEG isn't good with that sort of image. I've had good luck
loading a 4 color palette containing black, two shades of grey and white
and paring GIF sizes down even more with little loss in quality, it's worth
a try if you're using a good graphics editing program (I use Paint Shop
Pro).

It's a shareware you can find on my website, www.carlsondesign.com or
probably shareware.com.
Simple, very nice program, but you be the judge.

I would suggest to the egroup that anything over 740x480 is probably
too big, given our 20 meg limitation. And, it should probably be a JPG and
compressed by some decent software (like Thumbsplus).

Gregg, those recent Micro files posted were way too big to fit on my
monitor screen. Too much closeup, and I couldn't see the whole boat.
The files must take up a lot of space, too.

Gregg,

Is there maybe a way to make a file or folder that is just a list of
what pics, and who has them before everything gets removed, so that
in the future it would make finding who has photos of something
easier?

Rick

I was wondering if they would enforce that 20 meg rule or not. Let's try
this: could we get some volunteers who have posted pics to:

1. check your pics, delete old ones or considering scaling down with Thumbs
Plus etc.

2. those with websites can put up an html file instead of a pic pointing to
that file on your site. For instance, my hulls file used to reside on the
egroup space, but now just points to my website.

So, we'll give it a few days to see if some space frees up. If not, I'll
have to delete some older pics myself, with apologies...

I guess it is as good a time as any to clean house - I just deleted about
half a meg worth.

It might just be time to delete old files... I just cleaned out one
of my folders, so there should be some more room..

Others may well do the same....

Hello Group,
Have attempted to post some pictures in the files department but
can't do it as there are a scant 73 k's of space left(I tried to get
a folder going but a message kept coming back saying"Ooops!") .Is
this THE limit forever or is there some way our moderator can open up
