I don't know what's available on the Pacific coast, but in Maine
there are a number of companies that make lobster boat hulls in that
size range. You could order to a given state of completion and finish
yourself. These are semi-planing hulls, very seaworthy.

Thinking motorsailer and liveaboard, IMO the Alaskan is a very good
way to go. About 30'. Originally built as a freighter but easy to
expand the liveaboard capability.

Rather than a redesign of the Fast Motorsailor how about the Sitka
Explorer or maybe one of Buehler's trawler designs

All are displacement hulls.

Retriever is the only other planing cruiser I know of that is a nicer
set-up than FMS, but don't think it is off-shore capable. Cartoon is
at the Cartoons page.

Then there is the one I lke - Delaware Trawler - or is it Labrador
Trawler? Likely too small as well at 25'.

Alert is for sale and maybe there is still a Puffer as well.

I have several software packages for boat design and know my way
around. Even then I might not bother with a simple strech, unless
you don't beliive Bolgers numbers. If all you are going to do is
lengthen or widen, etc... you can just multiply the hydro out, and
you can probably get a better sense of the project in a model.
Nothing wrong with CAD though, and certainly it's more info rich.
