Thanks for the information. Moriarty's sliding hatch is not to plan anyway
[a double baffle front, a la Fred Bingham] and so I might find that the
master's original fore hatch design will not marry happily with what's
there.
This summer I 'tabernacled' the mast, but to my own design, keeping the fore
and aft mast position [and hence helm balance] the same, where the designed
tabernacle moves the mast [as you know] forward of the original bow and
requires a different mizzen to achieve the same balance. Pictures and the
article for Duckworks submission to follow in due course. Now I can unbutton
the parrels and bundle the boom, sail and gaff bundle still hitched to the
lifts and halyards. The bundle rests on the cuddy roof, and the mast is
dropped in moments. Rigging is the reverse process, and sees us from trailer
to sailing with Navigator sail in about 15 minutes. The mizzen lifts rigged
and lies along the main mast.
We currently reef on the boom at the mast, and I'm tossing around the
notions of either bringing reef lines aft to the cockpit or else possibly
keeping them where they are but creating an access hatch forward to avoid
the scrabble across the cuddy roof in ugly weather. It's all a bit
theoretical - the distance across the cuddy roof is not very far :)
Throughflow ventilation would , as you point out, need to be preserved, A
single dropboard and vent would be the plan - some forward thinking should
see re-use of the existing vent port....

I posted a further response to your query but it seems to have gone
astray somewhere.
I did a long and arduous search amongst my junk and ended up finding
the blue tube with the Navigator upgrade.
The foward access opening measures 2 feet 4 inches at the top, 2 feet
4 inches deep and 2 feet across the bottom. Surprisingly little detail
regarding the hatch. It obviously has to be a bit over 2 feet square I
would guess. Pretty sure it is the hatch design shown in the files
here called "Wiley port & Bolger hatch." it just lifts off and is
dogged down from inside likely.
I think installing a Wiley port in the drop board would be a good
choice too, since you have lost the flow-through ventilation without it.
