Chebacco gaff

The Chebacco gaff at 2.5" dia is rather smallish for a hollow mast. I
am wondering if most people build it solid, or hollow? Any comments on
pro's and con's?

Thanks
Ben
I built it solid for two reasons, one it is small and I think it needed
the stiffness since the bridal that attaches to the peak halyard really
places stress on just two points. By the way, the bridal is something I'm
still playing with and may create with a wire rope and swaged fittings
just to keep the tightness required. I also am not 100% happy with the
gaff jaw configuration. While it is plenty strong in use, I have had
several repairs to make due to my ham fisted transport and setup
activities. I'm thinking a wooden spreader and aluminum jaw configuration
might be an improvement. The great thing about building a boat is that
you can repair just about anything.
