Huge load of boat building plywood ...

100% Meranti (Red Lauan) plies with NO CORE VOIDS and NO PLASTIC FILLER and
WBP Phenol Formaldehyde glue and BS1088 standard construction, I can get it
manufactured and delivered to your door within 2-3 months for a price that's
probably about half of what you would pay locally for the same premium
quality material.
Email me privately for details if you actually want a load of this type of
plywood, but only if you will buy a large quantity. I cannot do smaller
quantities, but larger quantities make the shipping costs reasonable on a
per-sheet basis ... and the factory will produce pretty much anything I ask
for when the quantities are large enough.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Grome
Bagacay Boatworks
www.bagacayboatworks.com
The first wood/plywood broker on the WEB was a woman - 10 years ago. She got prices from every wholesaler/supplier in the world for every kind of wood. So when she quoted a price - a firm price - one new that they were likely getting the best price possible (without tendering). Naturally I can't remember her name - but try search her in Google. I think she aimed at commercial boat builders - I think ;]
At the same time the WEB is perfect for doing a FORMAL TENDER yourself via the WEB or snail mail to hundreds of plywood suppliers in your region. The SUGGESTED LIST PRICE of any commodity/product has nothing to do with production costs - it is only an attenpt to compare the quality of one product to its competitor. That's all.
A competitive FORMAL TENDERING process gets wholesalers/suppliers/retailers to compete and produce the lowest price for the same product (unless there is illegal collusion). All competitors have the option of making $0.00 (losing the "bid") or making less profit than they would like to make. The question is - do you retire at 55; or do the suppliers retire at 55 and you work til 75!
A FORMAL TENDER, properly carried out, should save anywhere from 25% to 50% off the average selling price (not suggested list price). I have save 50% (off retail price - not list price) on the costs for all the lumber to build a house by using a FORMAL TENDER.

I can't tell you what the actual type is in my aplication I was useing
45 yds 10 Oz. and then 45 Yards 6 oz.. I first sealed the ply then did
the chines, stem and trasom edges then 10 oz. a light fill sanded the
frayed edges and then the 6 Oz. and then rolled a coat over all. That
took 12 gal. of epoxy with foam rollers. I will be getting 15 gal more
epoxy in Feb to put on 4 oz. Dynel and then fairing to do. Will have it
panted and ready to turn in spring then start on the inner hull and top
side should have about 8 gal. for that. The epoxy I used is from
http://www.jgreer.com/it is Non Blushing Cycloaliphatic epoxy resin.
It comes in only one speed 30min but that is why it is non blushing no
garbage added. I realy like it but when worm mix smaller baches. At 60
degrees I mixed two baches of 30 oz each and put in seperat pant trays
with liners and had plenty of time to work. Storeing resin so you can
controle its temp is a way to controle how fast it works. The boat is a
32'X8'X42", 9'wide at gunels and 10'-6" rubs on over deck 11" draft
sternwheeler and I intend on having it tough enough for the sandy
beaches on the Columbia River. Not the answer you wanted but my
experiance useing it. The flaws are a ocasional snaged thread in the
weaving and some spots with extra thread or a thread missing in the
weave. Snags and extra cause bumps missing is through a few ft. and
should be removed and used for other things where weight is non
cridical. Survice was good and product was as clamed. Wouldn.t use it
on a stripper and on most small boats it would work as well as the
spendy stough. On a fair sized boat over 16' where you may need two
layers or more it would work good and lays well.

Hello,
I'm a relatively new member and lurker from Massachusetts, planning on
building a Chebacco beginning in the spring. Thanks for the tip on the
fiberglass cloth which i bought. A bargain is always helpful when boat
building, so I'm really glad you mentioned it. Thanks again !

Hey Bruce that's not a bad price. But I didn't see
what style of cloth it was.
I remember someone saying how much epoxy it took to
fill the cloth. The style of cloth has a lot to do
with how flat the cloth is. I know 7781 will fill with
one coat of epoxy most times. There is a place out

I used it on my sternwheeler hull over 10 Oz From the same outfit and
it took a little more sanding but for the cost I can sand a little.
