Re: [bolger] Maximo's Auxiliary

Hola, Maximo, and thanks for the information. I have
a 30' troller-type boat and I am considering the boats
you mention and others for tenders, but as with your
auxiliary it has to fit a rather odd space. I have
thought of break-down boats, but not tailoring the
shape the way you have done--you are an inspiration.
Merry Christmas. Sam

Hello Sam! How are you?

That ugly shape is because (what we call here) the baby-stay of the
sailboat. The most funny thing is that after I finish it, a few people tell
me "you don't need the baby-stay in this sailboat, only if you run races"
(wich I don't) ... :)

The name is, for legal matters, the same as the sailboat: "Forajido", outlaw
or "who runs from the law" :)

It's build in the most cheap way, with lots of materials left over from
Gypsy and Diablo. It was almost a "dismissable" proyect.

It was the first and the LAST boat I build from a design of mine. Very
difficult and with uncertain results. I admire even more Bolger and other
designers after this.

The construction was ala "stitch and glue" way, with 6 mm plywood, 220 gr/m2
roving all over the inside and outside, with few more in the joints,
polyester resin. In the stern you have 2 closed spaces of 240 liters. On the
bow you have an open locker (I wish it was also closed)

The experiment was to build the biggest posible boat, that enters in the
foredeck of the 25 foot sailboat, 1981 GRP local design 'Alpha 25'. It was
intended to be used in calm and protected waters, inside port, for short
distance as an auxiliary boat.

I tested with two big people, with oars, and with a 5 HP Tohatsu, and a 3.3
HP Mercury, both from a friend of mine. The better was with the 5 HP in low
RPM. With oars it was fine, but with tide or headwind, God help you...

On the other side, it is very stable, wich is very helpful to pass from the
sailboat to the boat and viceversa, both moving in water.

The bad things are: it is a little heavy, and the freeboard is too high. But
in general I am happy with the results of the experiment.

Do you consider Nymph or Rubens Nymph? Máximo.
Maximo! What a neat little craft! I didn't
understand the shape until I saw her on the foredeck
of your sailboat. I wish my Spanish was better.
Could you tell us a little about her construction,
power, etc.? I am in the process of picking a design
for a dinghy for my own boat, so your experiance would
be helpful. Oh, and I couldn't make out her name.
Could you tell us what it is? Thanks. Sam

Hello all. Do you know how to say in spanish 'douglas fir' and 'sitka
spruce'? (not the literal translation or the cientific name, but the name a
local wood shop would understand)

Not a Bolger boat, but an inspired one, a little auxiliary for a 25 foot
sailboat
