As you probably know Bolger did at least one pedal boat of that type,

Hey All,
I was going thru the photos section when I came across the Martha Jane.
She was sitting in shallow water, had a lee board in the up position
and the outboard was tilted out of the water. But what I saw for just a
second was a side-wheeler!, with fenders over the wheels to control the
spray.
Now I have just got to put pencil to paper just see if it is feasable
and reasonable.
Possibly a couple of very small diesels or a garden tractor drive train
and a single engine mounted low in the hull; could be used for power.
Then use either belt or chain to drive the wheels which are mounted on
deck.
