This sounds like an interesting design. Is there a web site that has a
study plan for the Oyster. I assume that Yacht Design II is a book or
magazine. More information would be appriciated.

I put a couple of quick snaps of the book pages about Oyster on my

Choose option 1. Pictures, and go to the bottom of the page. The
quality is terrible, but you can get the general idea. I am going to
be away from the list for a week, and I will take these down soon
after I get back, so look quick.

Anyone interested in a smaller boat along the lines of Superbrick
might
want to take a look at Jim Michalak's little shantyboat designs
Fusebox/Harmonica and especially Shanteuse. These are sort of half-
height mini-Superbricks with a Birdwatcher slot down the middle.

In Phil Bolger's book "Boats with and Open Mind" the drawing show a 6 hp
motor. Shortening the design would mean that some of the amennities woul
have to go. The design could be shorten about 5' by giving up the front
double berth, this would give a boat about 15 x 8 any shorter and I think
you would run in to problem controlling the boat.

Those of you interested in a smaller 'shanty boat' than the
SuperBrick might look at the Marine Van. It's just shy of 16',
outboard power only. If you know a muralist, you can have her paint
something interesting on the flat sides, otherwise a legend
like "Palm Springs or Bust!" is appropriate.
William Garden designed a 20' garvey as a live-aboard for a young
woman. It's worth a look.

I would be interested in Mr. Bolger's opinion on this "Superbrick" idea.
Suggest that, in keeping with the simplicity and utilitarian aspects of his
boats, that any Superbrick design fit in the bed of a full sized pick up
even if it rested on the fender wells.

Suggest that, in keeping with the simplicity and utilitarian aspects of his

even if it rested on the fender wells.

Bolger shows a 6hp motor on the Superbrick in his book "Boats With an Open

chapter that you could almost (the more experienced of us (not me!) probably
could) build it from the book.

And I thought my Micro looked ummm... shall we say.... unusual
Another person interested in the Super Brick! I have been looking at the
plan myself. I have also been searching for someone that has build it, so
far I have found possibly two people that have started one, but sense I have
not gotten their names I cannot be sure that it is not the same person. No
one including Phil Bolger can confirm that a Super Brick has been build. I
don't know how you heard about the Super Brick or how much information you
have on it. I put the study plans for the Super Brick in the Files of this
e-group. The most information on the Super Brick is in Phil Bolgers book
"Boats with an Open Mind" in which he devotes a chapter to the boat (68).
In my correspondence with him, he stated that the boat was designed for the
now defunct Common Sense Designs, but that the boat did represent a pet
project of his and he would like to see the design build. The cost of plans
from Phil Bolger and Friends is $200.00. I hope this is of some help.
Let me know anything that you find out on the Super Brick.
