Re: [bolger] Re: Spur11

That Spur II was a 'spur of the moment' thing. I built it quickly
without knowing anything about lapstrake technique. In other words,
it was a learning experience. The lessons I learned came to fruit
later when I built my favorite rowboat, Cartoon 5 (which is much
similar to Spur II, but double ended.)

I rowed Spur II several times, and it rowed extremely fine, just
spectacular. It ended up weighing 20 pounds more than I would have
preferred, but I could cartop it single handed.

I gave her away to a long time old friend, and I understand that she
still sees plenty use on Lake Washington near Seattle.
Thanks for the great photos, I will make them into a slide show for mike.
Looks pretty nice to me Bruce. How much does it weigh and if you have used
it enough, a performance review would be greatly appreciated. Both John
bartlett and myself have purchased a 45 yd roll of the e-bay cloth so it
looks like we have to build something. Kind of like finding a horseshoe and
ending up buying a race track to go with it. Oh well it is certainly one of
my finer addictions. I will treat it as I do my former pig farming
addiction and everytime I want to get back in I wait a few weeds and the
feeling passes. John is considering the clamskiff with a cabin for a
runabout on the shallow waters of Florida and to be used with the 9.9
yamaha. Souns good but I will start another thread to keep the discussion
on track.
Spur II, roman numeral two.

Yes, it is similar to Victoria, but has differences. Victoria is more
traditional construction with more deadrise. Importantly, Spur II
uses a style of plywood strake/frame construction which is uniquely
Bolger giving it a remarkable speed and ease of build suited for
'modern' materials.

Is this a Spur Two or Eleven and please what is the beam .
It seems similar to "Victoria" , is it ?
Huw
The Tyson Spur II is much nicer than my quick and dirty one. Still,
photos of mine are here.
