Re: [bolger] trading list & group suggestions
I vote yes for including forsale Bolger boats. The number will be few and
they won't show up a bit in the noise of the group.
If we exclude
them then everytime one is posted we will have a discussion about it for
a couple of weeks insted of a single forsale post with a very few
comments. That's what is see on other list and news groups. The worst
example I can think of is rec.photo.largeformat. They would get 1 to 5
posts a week of items for sale and there would be 50 or more a week
griping about it. In my opinion it will cause a less traffice to inclued
for sale item that in the spirit of the list and allow dealers to respond
to post that are of general interest. That includes annoucments of new
things.
In the end it is up to the owner of the list. Mail lists are not a
democratic medium unless the owner wants it that way.
I would like to add a comment about noise. We in the US are spoiled by
unlimited local calls and unlimited acces to the internet. This is not the
case in most of the rest of the world. They pay by the pound, rather the
minute, in many cases for both the phone and the ISP. This may run as high
as 10 cents a minute in some countries. So think about that before you say
me to and quote 3 pages of text or send a jpg to the list. I URL to a file
in the vault or you web page. If there is no vault or drop box I will be
glad to furnish one. The will keep files 30 days unless they are of great
ongoing interest.

I agree with you. I think you speak with the voice of common sense. This
is the first thread on thie group that I have found tiresome. Between peer
pressure, a suprisingly limited number of members, great geographic dispersal

a problem, then will be the time to deal with it. I do not think that there
is some pressing need to establish formal rules, to be established by a poll,
of unspecified methodology, regarding the posting of "for sale" notices. I
am strongly suspicious of the motives of those who find this issue more
interesting than the design, building or operation of boats.

Hi All,
I would like to campaign for a yes vote for the following reasons;
If I have a boating Item, to dispose of, my first wish would be to have
go to someone with my interests; i.e. Bolger boats. When my health no
longer allowed me to plan on sailing, my first thought was to have
another Micro builder gain by my loss. And because I was able to make
contacts, via the list we have two happy campers, one with the sails and
the other with the masts, spars and keel. Knowing they are getting good
out of my problem sure made it easier to accept.
With the caliber of participants on this list, I can't see the, for
sale or trade, being stretched any more off topic than the conversations
that we have. This is among the best e-group on the net, because of the
people on it, and that won't change because of an occasional, on topic,
for sale or swap, listing, That would be responded to, off list.

Richard: A folder "boats, etc. for sale or trade" is a great idea.
EGroup: With 330 members, I am trying to keep the posts on topic so we
don't overwhelm and lose valuable members. I suggest:
1. Send "thanks, great idea, ditto, etc." off list (i.e. personal
sentiments rather than content of general interest). I think I would speak
for most in saying that no "thanks" is necessary and I would just as soon
have a few less emails to read.
2. Especially on simple questions, pls. check the thread to see if your
answer to a question has already been offered.
3. Call me overwrought, but punctuate!
4. Question: Peter's excellent Micro post aside, should we generally allow
or encourage "for sale or trade posts?". I find them interesting and don't
think we'll get many. Vote here:

We should have somewhere we could post our dust
collectors for trade.
Gregg, anything we could do on egroups? Maybe a
folder in the vault?
