Re: [bolger] June Bug for Gimps
Bruce, I am building one too, and plan to put a side
motor board on her for my old Light Twin. If you beat
me to it, I hope you post your results--it would be
very helpful. Sam

Great photos, I'd forgotton Mark's site.
Yep, I'll probably opt for a standard June Bug. I might even spring
for decent ply and finsih her 'clear'.
The wider stern looks like it'll be even more stable than a Crab
Skiff. His wife sitting on the aft decking gives me too many ideas.
I might even be able to modify her for my 2.5 hp Suzuki! Perhaps on
a side mount motor board. With a rope ladder off the stern it might
just be possible to reboard her in deep water.
Now add a surry top, gimballed champagne glass holders and a
recliner seat back for my sweetie in the sternsheets.....
Thanks all for your imput.
Of course, I could write Phil with my specific needs, he probably
has a design that'd be perfect already rolled in a tube somewhere.

Nice shot of Mark demonstrating the stability. I really don't think it
needs any more beam. The shot of sailing in Berner's Bay is my all time
favorite Bolger dinghy picture.

Using boat design software like Freeship, it can be easier.
Here is a screenshot of the panel dimensions for a Junebug, widened to 3'6"

You might just try building a regular Junebug, it has a reputation of
being remarkably stable just as it is.
If you don't mind a transom bow, that is, if you don't
mind a pram, you could just add any amount to the
width of all frames and add a bow transom of the same
width to close the bow, and alsowiden the stern
transom. That would be easy on a flat bottom boat
meant to carry her ends clear of the water in any
event.
