Re: New England must see?

Has anyone been to Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth NH lately?. The last
time I was there it was quite interesting, with various artisans
showing off their skill. At that time, that included the Lowell Dory
Boatshop.

Likewise, it has been a long time since I visited the Whaling Museum
in New Bedford.

Do you want some suggestions about places to avoid? There is a place
to eat in Westerly RI named "Terminal Lunch." 'nuff said.

Rather than track down and hunt Phil B in Gloucester, continue on up
into Rockport, MA. It is a great artist community (beware, it is a
dry
town. BYOB in Gloucester) Visit Halibut Point State Park. It is
situated right on an ocean point, with huge granite outcroppings. I
make it a point to do at least one picnic there per year.
David,
Mystic is a must see, check out the small boat shed while you are
there. You can actually try the boats. and go on the Catboat
I would skip the Vineyard, it is grossly overrated! Edgartown in
pretty, but there is not a lot of public access to the beaches,
particularly on the backside but if you have friends there, it is
worth
the trip.
go to the Peabody Museum in Salem, MA. Salem is an up and comer
in the vacation community. Great family place. Don't dismiss Boston
either. The harbor is much cleaner than it used to be, and the water
taxis to the Harbor Islands are one of the best bargains in the
country. (you may want to do this on your return trip as the tall
ships are due to arrive after the 4th of July.) Don't go swimming
without a wetsuit on. Skip Plymouth, Hampton Beach, most of Cape Cod.

I like Boothbay, although I prefer Camden and rockport. A trip
out to Vinal Haven out of Port Clyde gives you the best of Maine
without the crowds.
Cape Cod is good, The National Seashore is a treasure but the
swimming is cold

Happy Travelling,

CHeck this out:

We visited this place early in the season, and just looked around the
shop. Amazing experience. Not sure they'd have as many boats around
in
the summer, but even if just a few would be well worth it. Doesn't
look like much on the outside.

I'm looking for "must see" suggestions for a jaunt I'm about to take.
We're leaving Monday for a trip to New England. First to Mystic Con. to
the Wooden Boat show - then to New Port RI and up to Portland Maine and
then to Bar Harbor.
Back down to Martha's Vineyard and south again to Florida. I could also
swing through Gloucester if there was any chance of meeting THE Phil
Bolger.
Open to all suggestions.
Thanks,
