Congratulations Miles and good luck on your build!

I liked the idea of keeping the cockpit open with the fixed keel
option as well. Then also considering the portable forward spray
cover/dodger as in the orignal plans.

Another great feature of Catfish is having a motor on the centerline.
Then I read about PCB&F considering a Birdwatcher upgrade. Then I
began to visualize a removable hardtop, similar to the motorsailor
version of Chebacco.

But ended up realizing it will be a beautiful looking and handy design
as is:-)

What size motor are they suggesting?

Hi All,
I purchased the plans from PCB & Friends at the end of last year - the
original plans with 'raised deck' (not really ergonomically friendly)
and the modified with centre board, 5 inch wide side decks and built
in seating. She really is a wonderful design. I'm about to start
building having spent quite some time considering the internal layout
options. I'm going for the long, fixed keel but have designed side
seating and storage so she will be an open cruiser - basically a
Chebacco with a large cockpit and no cabin. I've put together a model
(just a rough from cardboard) and can't wait to start on the full size
version! I intend to place photos and some comments here as I
progress. Feel free to email me if you are interested.
Cheers
Miles.
Thanks, Graeme, I found the drawing in the Cartoons group here
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BolgerCartoons/files/> and the text of
the MAIB article here
<http://www.messingaboutinboats.com/archives/mbissuejuly00.html>.

Damn, I like this one, too. So many boats, so little time....

;-)

Matthew,

It looks pretty much the same to my eye.

If you search through this group's message archives you will find
some threads on the updated "Beach Cat" (from memory PB&F use that
monica for the H H Payson "Catfish" or "Catfish Beachcruiser" -
search for these too). I think there are scans of the "Bolger on
Design" article of a few years ago somewhere in the files [MAIB
July 15, 2000 Bolger on Design Design #589 Plywood Catboat (Optional
Revision)]. Try the study_plans_only or bolgerCartoons groups for a
scan of the cartoon. The side decks are narrower to allow sitting up
on chair high benches, the keel is replaced by a low aspect quadrant
centreboard, the rest mostly is as it was. The idea of
birdwatcherising is floated IIRC. IIRC the camping shelter can still
be adapted to the upgrade. PB&F has the plan.

Does anyone have the sketches of the modified Catfish Beach Cruiser the
PB&F did a few years ago?

I think I have the original plans in a box somewhere (moving soon) and
may have the sketch in there, but I don't have it in electronic form.
As I remember, the original was awkward in use in that the side decks
weren't the right height to sit on, and kept the crew too far inboard
to do much good holding the boat up in a blow.

I am not looking to build from the sketch (I would order the modified
plans from PB&F for that), I am just trying to refresh my memory as to
how it looked.

Thanks!
