Hi John,
I have just posted off a letter to PB&F to order the plans and the
extra Navigator upgrade.
Just curious, I have managed to find a few photos of some Micro
Navigators on the net and a few sketch drawings.
Roger's Micro appears to be a heavily modified version of the
Navigator cabin extension.
Are there any other pics of Paloma Blanca available and what is the
living space and setup like for 1 person on extended cruising?
What goodies, gadgets does Rodger carry aboard?
Funny, I have been looking at big plastic boats like the Compass 28,
Roberts 25 Adventurer etc and after considering all the hassels with
marina fees, insurance, slipping, engine maintenance, osmosis etc etc
the Micro really is all I need and all on a comparative shoestring
budget and no finance or selling the farm to pay for it.
What Roger is doing is exactly what I hope to be doing someday.
Whatever, I will certainly be building the Navigator (or a modified
Navigator) version.
Yes, I also reckon Roger has had enough adventures in 'Paloma Blanca'
to write a book. I will buy the first copy!
It's really an awesome read. I got my charts and maps out and sat and
plotted his cruise as I read. Must have read through his notes 100
times since.
Cheers,
Paul.

Paul,
Roger correesponed with PCB re suitability of the Micro for just such
a venture and Bolger supplied the Navigator modification to meet the
requirement. The ability to get out of the wind, rain and waves is a
prime requirement in such a small boat. You may want to consider the
Navigator option. Remember, there are few safe haven across the Great
Australian Bight. so pick your long range weather window,

Graeme,
The voyage was this year, somtime over the last few months. Roger is
70 something, rides a bike everywhere, is a dedicated energy
conservationist (solar powered house, water conservationist (uses tank
water), and is a dedicated political activist and human rights
campaigner. The South Australian coast line has a variety of
topologies including long stretches sandy beaches, tidal , rugged
cliffs and rocky shores, many of which are battered by large waves
(good for surfers) from the southern ocean storms. Occasionally a
white pointer will have a swimmer for lunch! I consulted Roger when I
was building my Micro and he was incredibly helpful and gave me heaps
of good advice and I have implemented his reefing system on my boat.
Anyway, I'm sure he would be pleased that people are enjoying his
article and as I mentioned he will be delighted to answer any
questions people may have,
Cheers,
John

Hi John,
thanks for posting this clearest ever pic of Paloma Blanca. And the
story! - I'm a little unclear when this cruise occurred. Was it
January this year? - And that makes Roger well into his seventies
doesn't it? Fantastic! Intrepid. Inspirational.
A transom hung rudder has been said to be the the safest at sea due
to ease of access for repairs. Roger's dicing with hypothermia sort
of proves the point. How about a Micro arrangement like that of the
Col HG Hasler, with offset outboard, for better safety?
Antarctica, the Sothern Ocean, and the Roaring Forties just to the
south! Roger hopped over a thousand klicks from near Adelaide via
the York Peninsular and Port Pirie across to Pt Lincoln, and back.
Redoubtable. Awesome.
I've thought of that coast as bloody dangerous, cold, and swarming
with great whites, but the sky, water, and beaches do look clean.
