Re: [bolger] new recruit

Wharram's site is at: <www.wharram.com>. There is a mailing list on that site:
<http://apps4.vantagenet.com/zforums/thread.asp?id=01301046> ,as well as on the
Polynesian Catamaran Association site that I previously noted,

Hi, Richard,
As far as home built cats go, the most interesting site that I've
found is on the Polynesian Catamaran Association pages:
<http://www.multihulls.uk.com/pca/>. Unfortunately, they focus
exclusively on Wharram designs there, but you can glean a lot of
general information by searching their archives. I say "unfortunately",
btw, because there are other designers of home-built cats worthy of
attention, including Bolger, and not because I find any fault with
Wharram's boats.
Perhaps some other member of this list are aware of another good
catamaran site that they could suggest.
As for this, the Bolger List, plans by other "Bolgerish" designers do
slip into the discussion quite often. I suspect that the catamarans of
Wharram and Thomas Firth Jones might fit the mold. Even Marples
and Brown could conceivably squeeze in. Kurt Hughes is way too
slick, imho, but, then, what do I know?

Welcome, Richard!

There is a Wharram listserv (I think) and website - I'll try to grub up some
details.

I have a couple of pictures of the nice 18 ft Pocket Cat on my site:
www.ecoastlife.com - look for the "Cedar Key" links.

I almost started a small cat too, the "most built" ones are probably the
Wharram Tiki 21/26 and the Jarcat series from Australia. I finally dropped
the idea after confronting the realities of trailering a multihull (too much
fiddley rigging and most have to be semi-built each launching). The Pocket
Cat is nice, but appears (as all multi's) very sensitive to overloading. It
is a very small boat in displacement terms.

I'm tinkering along on a couple of Nymph's so these guys will let me vent a
little off-Bolger. They are pretty gullible or maybe sniffing this epoxy
wears them down...

Hi Richard,

While I am currently working on a Bolger folding schooner, I would ultimately
like to have a small but sleepable abd trailorable little cat cruiser. So
far the only ones that really fit the bill, ie. cost and ease of build, are
the wharram cat's, the Tiki 21 and 26. There is even a Tiki 30, that is
supoose to be trailorable though this is pushing the workable limits.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area. Where are you located!

Chuck.
