Don't give up the ship!
This was a common problem on the old Marshall boats. The fix was to
purchase (in your case, construct) a new bulkhead that came in two
pieces, port and starboard. The new bulkhead gets assembled in
sections, tabbed in place, then glass reinforced. Willing to bet this
is doable, but may require some deck disassembly to get frame "A" in
place. Plus lack of standing room may prove this a rough go. It is a
p.i.a to get that hatch lined up again so short of that...target
practice for the little aircraft from the Bolger instant
Carrier...visions of ultralights dropping small grenades, or attacks
from spud launchers.
sorry, just being silly with the back out and all.

Find a club that teaches sailing by racing, preferably with something like Optimist Prams (one student per boat). A couple of months and you'll know why it's so nice to leave the machinery on shore and be able to sneak up on birds and sun bathers.
Cheaper too! We used to sail down, anchor to seaward of the show's area, and watch the water show off the end of Navy Pier in Chicago. The diner/dancers on the moored excursion ship were paying hundreds of dollars for their evening. All it cost our skipper was a case of beer.

I know nothing about sailing so that moves me into the power boats and with the cost of fuel going up. I don't want to feed a big
motor to get a turn of speed, so what do you do?

My Dad and Ernie Gann were good friends they spent
many an hour on Ernie's boat the Srumpet and no it was
not a Bolger design. Or Dad would fly out and land on
the lake at the farm. I don't remember meeting Ernie
(Gee I don't know why I'm 50 today) but we were out on
San Juan Island a few times growning up in the early
60s. Now I live here!
I look at all the boat designs and desiding what one
to build is a hard one! I know nothing about sailing
so that moves me into the power boats and with the
cost of fuel going up. I can't want to feed a big
motor to get a turn of speed, so what do you do?
When I use to go boat camping it was in a 17 foot
fiberglass open boat. I still have the boat just not
sure if I want to put the work into it, that it needs
to be safe out here in the islands.
But the other side of the coin I have the boat and I
know 55 HP will push it right at 18 kts. If I put a
small cabin on it, it would be dryer then a tarp tent!
Hmmm what does one do to enjoy being on the water? I
do have a 12 foot skiff and a pair of oars... And a
trailor to put it on that just needs a new set of
bunks.
So what does one do? (in a small voice "help me help
me")
Blessings to all

That was my thought, those are narrow runways on the islands. I landed
on Orca in the early seventies and there wasn't more than a couple of
feet of pavement to spare on either side of the tires. Good enough for
Ernie Gann, he used to fly out of there with a 450 Pratt Whitney in a
Gullwing Stinson. To my knowledge Ernie never owned or built a Bolger
boat -to keep on topic. His "Song of the Sirens" will provide you with
some more insight in who owns who in the boat--person relationship however.

Well that better than one guy that just flew off the
hours on his Murrphy Moose and he wrecked it last
weekend at Roache Harbor airport.
I'm going to guess the bird was worth 150 grand. So
with something like 40 odd hours on the clock it's
time for a rebuilt!

I'd lost interest in her two years ago. She was stored outside,
coverered by a tarp. Two Canadian winters and a reipped tarp or two
later ......... Bo Whoooo!
Did you at least keep the leaded keel?

Ouch!
So what happened? How did water get inside to rot the
bulkheads? Was the boat glassed?

It is with deep regret that I must announce the passing of my Bolger
Micro "Riff-Raff". Uponj inspection after winter's passing I noted
that
the internal bulkheads had passed also.
The sides were 1/4" marine and the bottom was doubled 3/8" marine
and
were as soldid as a drum. But I had used a nondescrip 1/2" birch
veneer
ply for the bulkeads as it was on sale (some deal!) and these had
delaminated and self shredded to the point where you could crumble
the
wood with your bare hands.
Wanting a suitable Viking funeral, but fearing the wrath of the
local
Fire Dept. we took the swsall to her and carted the big bits to the
dump.
I put a pic here. Have a stiff one and a box of Kleenex handy before
you peek.
