Re: [bolger] What to use to seal plywood?

My money would go (has gone) toward three coats of epoxy, with fiberglass, which are then coated with paint to keep the UV away. That's the exterior.

The interior would get the same where foot traffic will grind the sand in, but beyond that, it would depend on the type of plywood. Fir plywood needs the same to prevent checking. I like epoxy coating all surfaces to encapsulate the ply, but if it's going to be relatively dry, then other techniques will probably work.

Subject: [bolger] What to use to seal plywood?

Hi all. I will shortly be beginning to build a plywood tender. Once
constructed, what should I use to seal the wood from water penetration before priming and painting? Is epoxy the best stuff? Are there cheaper effective alternatives. I have heard of Sand and Seal but what is it, who makes it, is it any good and where does one buy it (I am in the UK)?? This tender will spend most or its life outside but not afloat. It will only be afloat for about one or 2 weeks a year.
I look forward to your advice Gentlemen.
