[bolger] Re: The Folding Schooner

Chuck,

I haven't seent the plans for the folding schooner, but I think it's an
older, heavier, and maybe less-canvassed design. On the other hand, I've
capsized my light scooner, which might be a surprise on San Farncisco Bay!
If you follow my web page, www.carlsondesign.com/lscooner.html, you'll see
where I increase my floatation to get it to float high enough to bail after
capsize (hasn't happened again yet). Anyway, it's an altogether light,
fast, and fun boat.

It's a day-sailor, though, nothing at all like a Wharram cat...

Hi anyone,

I have just found this site and am hoping to ask a few questions of
others who have had some experience with Bolger boats. I have decided
over the last six months to build a light schooner. A truely
fascinating boat, easy to build comnpared to . . . say a wharram
catamaran, and something I could have on the water this millinium.
Then when everything seems settled, pow, something else pops up. I
have the opportunity to buy a well built hardly ever used folding
schooner. Hard to pass up. Is the folding schooner a better or worse
sailer than the light schooner? If you had the choice, which would you
choose? What should I pay for her? Is three or four thousand to much?
I would love some input. I will be sailing her (whichever) on San
Francisco bay and surrounding area. Hope to here from anybody!
