ZEPHYR #316 20'9" x 3' 8 "
How heavy? What other rig?
Lighter options-
ZEPHYR is out of 3/8" ply. SPARKLER #409, at 19' X 4'11" has thick
panels, 1/2" and double bottom, to give the feeling and actuality of a
steady boat of some substance, and the weight to make up for a loss of
bearing (narrowness) towards the bow. PB says the panel thickness in
SPARKLER can be reduced by HALF or more. I guess adding back some
weight on the bottom by using sandbag ballast could achieve the effects
desired in SPARKLER plus other desirable qualities, no?
SPARKLER is 19', ANHINGA is 23'6", and both can use 1/4" topside
panels. Why not ZEPHYR? Is the 3/8" ply in ZEPHYR mainly there to also
effect a feeling of substantiality?
Weight is one thing that counts against a beach cruiser. ZEPHYR is a
beachcruiser - a functional WISP - AND LIKEWISE MEANT FOR CARTOPPING
too. I'm thinking of adding weight by extending the end decks, and
adding forward bulwarks, so can the panels be safely made of thinner
stuff?
Rig options-
PB&F said they would do WISP over again with a gaff cat yawl rig -
discuss. Size? Location? Main partner in a free draining bow well? Etc?
Perhaps an 8' x 10' gaff main stays where the partner already is in
ZEPHYR?
