Re: [bolger] adding jibb to bobcat
Hi Chris,
This same question was asked on the Wooden Boat forum back on March 1 of
this year, about an old catboat of similar size to the Bobcat. Go to
www.woodenboat.com, then go to forums and select Design/Plans and then
search for catboat. Select "Add a jib to catboat? - good grief". There were
quite a few responses and some looked like they might be good advice. Take
a look and see what you think. Try out what looks like good suggestions and
let me/us know the results. It will be a while before I get my Bobcat in
the water, so anything you learn can help me when I do.

If you simply add a jib, you will likely end up with an unsailable boat, as
you will move the center of the sail plan forward, producing prodigious lee
helm.
There is a lot of info on rig balance in Bolger's 101 Rigs book and on
Michalak's website (you'll have to drill about to find it, but his site is so
full of interesting stuff that it is a treat) <A
