Ready to Raka Roll!

FBBB --

My Raka order just arrived -- 20 yards of cloth and enough epoxy to
finish the Light Scooner and crank out a couple of pirated punts.

I am under the impression that if you apply additional epoxy to
partially cured previous coats, then there is no need for sanding,
washing, and the bond is superior. If I'm misreading the West
literature or if it doesn't apply to Raka, someone please let me know!

My strategy is this: one big piece to cover the bottom, and one long
skinny piece for each side. I've got 6 oz. 60 inches wide for the
bottom, and 4 oz. 30 inches wide for the side. I thinking the bottom
should go on first so the rougher finish of the overlap is hidden on
the bottom. Any thoughts one way or the other would be most welcome.

Looks like we'll have good glassing weather tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm excited!

YIBB,

David

Hello David,
I used a premium grade, oil based exterior paint(SICO PLUS) on an
ELVER I built in the mid-eighties.The only prep work I did was to
scub the epoxy down with soap and water followed by a wash down with
a solution of boric acid. This was followed by two coats of paint.I
recently saw her again, nearly 13 years after that first paint job,
and although the paint had faded substantially and was scruffed off
where the fenders rubbed, all appeared to be sound.
It may be worth noting that this boat is fresh water sailed in an
area that enjoys about 3 1/2 months of reasonably warm summer like
temperatures.
The present owners remarkable sans soucie about basic boat upkeep
is something of a mystery to me..............
Sincerely,

Peter Lenihan, wondering just when the he** summer is going to grace
us with her presence, here on the fast flowing, toxic waters of the
St.Lawrence.....

Just place my order with Raka, 30 odd yards of cloth and 6 gallons of goo.

Also got a bunch of epoxy toys like squeegies, pots, pumps. Looks
like July fourth is glassing day.

I also repainted my teal's topsides, and decided that porch and deck
"country redwood" is the fleet color. I guess I'll have to start
buying it by the bucket.

Speaking of porch paint, it when over lil'winnie's polyester resin no
problem, still sticking really tight. Anyone have any experiences
using it over expoxy they'd care to share?

Meanwhile, it's time to get to work on the blades and remaining spares!
