Hi Matt

I don't know how helpful this will be, but it can be frustrating not
to get any answers on a forum like this, so here goes.

The 'hold' area on Micro is open to the cabin as designed, so you will
be able to reach or crawl through without going in via the deck hatch.

When I built our Micro I didn't make a cutting list or even account
very tidily for the lumber required - I just bought enough 'two by'
stock to make the masts, using the clearest construction grade timber
I could find. It wasn't that clear, so I had lots of smaller bits left
over, which ended up being used for the odds and bits of the hull.
When I needed more I went and bought another stick or two, or rummaged
in the offcut pile.

A lot of the 'what will I need' questions can only be answered
accurately once you have decided how you are going to do various
things, such as: How are you planning on building your spars - to
plan? Birdsmouth? Tabernacled? Do you plan on attaching the keel while
the boat is upside down? Right side up? On its side? Are you going to
build a 'strongback' to hold the bulkheads in place while assembling
the sides and bottom around them? and so on...

For what it is worth, I built Birdsmouth masts, Gaff mainsail, No
strongback, hull inverted until sides and bottom were on then rolled
it rightside up onto a cradle to add decks and keel [lead and ply as
originally drawn]. I think each Micro has probably been built
differently :) It comes down to preferences - they all seem to float
in the end.

I do not know if you have ever been to North America on holiday, but
as someone who originally came to Canada from Scotland, and who has
been back recently, all I can add is that I don't envy you the price
and quality of the lumber available to 'the man in the street' in the
UK. We grumble about what can be obtained over here, but I was
horrified by the stuff [and prices] at B&Q and the like.

Good luck, and please ask any questions that arise.

Hello my name's matt.
I'm planning to build a micro in north wales (uk). Any advice about
the constrution of it would be helpfull, eg I'm putting together a
cutting list at the moment, now I know the plywood requirements but
what about other wood for battoning, mast's and suporting the hull
during construction. And is there any way of moving the hatch to the
hold into the cabin (eg. a hatch in the bulkhead) has anyone tryed
this ?

Any help would be very gratefully reseived
