Re: Lining off strakes for Chebacco Lapstrake version

Ian Oughtred's _Clinker Plywood Boatbuilding Manual_ has a complete
chapter on lining off (Chapter 3, 7 pages)

There is a description of lap strake construction in John Gardner's book
on classic small boats. Plywood clinker is probably somewhat different,
but there are a number of books that deal with it specifically.

Chebacco, another boat on my short list to build.

Laying out stakes is kind of a personal thing.

Have you seen my Chebacco strake layout?

see here:

Also, here is my Chebacco Free!Ship model, for tweaking.

I recommend a cardboard model to get a visualization of the 'banana'
sweeping of those strakes.
I have a cardboard model in hand, but no photos.

I just received plans for the Chebacco plywood version #540 and the
lapstrake version #575. The plywood version is fairly self explanatory
as how one would go about building it, but I see no obvious way to
plot out the strake patterns on the laptrake version. Bolger supplied
3 sheets of drawings for the lapstrake version. The first sheet is a
sailplan and bow and stern views of the boat. the second shows the
waterlines, buttocks and a table of offsets. The third shows a profile
view and plan view. I can see how the table of offsets can be used to
get the station molds and bulkheads, but the strakes don't follow
either the waterlines or the buttocks, so I am at a loss to figure out
how to derive the strakes. If anyone has built this model I would
appreciate some insight into how they plotted the strake patterns.
