Re: [bolger] Luan ply or doorskin
Thank you Will for saying what I have been thinking for some time. Yes some of us have been around boat building professionally and even then you are not sure what is being said.

Diagonal, were some of the things I abreviated.
The basic point is that Luan ply with waterproof glue is about the
cheapest material you will ever find to build a great boat out of.
But it can't be treated for best results like marine ply or better
grades of marine timber, because it has a low resistance to rot. For
best results it needs to be sheethed. As regards rot it is the worst
I have ever seen, but that doesn't mean it can't be used, you just
need to protect it.
Of course, some projects start out as disposable, though if they
work, and stick around, all of a sudden you wish you had used some
decent panels in them.
And throwing away species names, I don't think you will find a sheet
of Lloyd's approved marine ply that uses the same material found
Doorskins or flooring. By same I mean if it, looks, smells, handles,
cuts, finishes the same at a minimum (DSs even saw with more tear-
out), two offcuts could not be told appart. But then I haven't seen
every sheet so marked, so who knows.
