Re: Spar lumber from Menards?
I know exactly what you are talking about. I believe it is radiata
pine. I also have purchased it from Menards (Chicago suburbs). I
have used it on two masts and the boom and yard for my AF3. I also
have used it for framing. It is quite nice to work with and tends to
be quite straight and clear. Its strength to weight ratio is not as
high as spruce however it is much less expensive. I highly recommend it.

In planning a spar project for my WDJ schooner, I happened across some
interesting lumber stock at my local Menards store here in Wisconsin.
It is a "1 by" product available up to 12 inches wide and 12 ft long,
is located in their inside "Select lumber" racks, and carries a tag
that calls it only "Green End" lumber.
I can't begin to identify the species and the Menards lumber guys are
no help. There's some grain to it..long, wavy, almost tropical looking
maybe? Seems light with a porous end grain.
The attraction is that the stuff is absolutely clear, no knots
whatsoever..A 12ft, 1X4 is like $9..
Anyone near a Menards Lumber ever come across this stuff and have any
idea what it really is?
Thanks..

Thanks..
