Re: Dovekie Refit
Hey Jason & group,
You're welcome to post the photos I sent along to you.
I've been busy cleaning and getting my "new" Dovekie ready for the
SWS spring cruise - 2 more weeks and I'll be sailing on the
Chesapeake again!

I towed it 400 miles with a borrowed truck, didn't know it was back
there. Then switched to my car suzuki sx4 (tiny awd wagon) and towed
it another 250 miles. She did fine but just putted in 4th gear. After
pulling out some stuff, i don't beleive the whole rig weighs more than
1100 pound, boat stripped 600lbs which is impressive for 21.5 x 6
feet.
I launched her and rigged her in 15 minutes the whole settup, rig,
rigging and fittings are ingenious.
When i get done with the refit i'll get some photos of my own for you.

I launched her and rigged her in 15 minutes the whole settup, rig,
rigging and fittings are ingenious.
When i get done with the refit i'll get some photos of my own for you.

I see mentioned that there was a Bolger article about Dovekie in Small
Boat Journal #3. That is one issue of that magazine which I have not
yet seen. Anybody have a copy?

My first bolger boat purchase. After hauling from NJ to VA i now own a
dovkeie. Sailed it once last weekend and now the refit commences. I've
got her stripped and am attempting to get the freakin' porch enamel
off her so as to give her a sweet two part poly finish and varnish
back on the spars.
The dovekie is a great little boat, seems like an oddity that it made
it to production and so many other bolger boats didn't, and haven't.
With the current trend in oil prices seems to me this type of boat
will make good sense to the average boater in short time (again as in
the 70's).
