Re: [bolger] Re: SALTWATER GENERATOR
Hi Bob,
select "View > Source" which will open a new window and display the
HTML source code. At the bottom of the source code page is more (but
very limited) information.
Obviously this is a very lame-brained way to provide the technical info
people might be seeking! The guy knows people want to see this info
because he mentions it right there on the page -- yet he proceeds to
hide it from view of regular people who don't know how to view a web
page's source code. How much more deceptive can he possibly be than to
use such a childish prank?
I would NEVER buy anything from a person who is so lazy or deceptive
that he won't even make this information visible when browsing the web
page normally.
Not only that, but the specs visible in the source code still do not
include any info regarding the number of anode plates required, or
where to get the "universal converter" mentioned in the web page, or
how much it might cost. In fact the only useful info I got from the
source code is that the more you power you draw the lower the voltage
drops. This means it would be practically useless for most electrical
and electronic items which generally require a steady voltage.
I'll never buy one, that's for sure, not even for $5. For all I know it
could end up costing $100 or more for the "universal converter", and it
seems this converter is a requirement.
And where is the money back guarantee or refund policy if you're not
satisfied or if it fails to perform as advertised?
No way, not in this lifetime!
Sincerely,
Ken Grome

I think some more info is needed. The site shows $32.?? for a set of 8
replacement anodes, but doesn't say how many anodes are needed at each
time. It says to go to source at bottom of the page for specs, but
there was nothing like that at the bottom of the page that showed up on
my computer. If it needs 8 anodes each time, this is a very expensive
generator to run! 5 amp load run time of only 8 hours. Even the light
load of 100 hours could mean a change of once a week for live aboards.
$32.00 a week for electricity is way more than I want to pay.

It probably works, but the energy it produces is not free. The plates
are consumed when it generates electricity so you have to buy more when
they are gone.
The best marketing argument I can see is that it has an indefinite shelf
life when it doesn't have any salt water in it, so you can use it like
a battery that never goes dead. Just keep it on the shelf for an
emergency, then use it when you need a little bit of emergency power.
It might be fine as a source of temporary emergency lighting or to
power a low draw radio, but it is way overpriced even for these
purposes.
The problems with the unit include inconsistent voltage:
Voltage (no load) approx. 12+V
Voltage @ 4 Watts approx. 10 V
Voltage @ 8 Watts approx. 8 V
... and the need for what they refer to as a "universal" power converter
which is obviously not included (thus an added expense), and the need
to wash it out carefully with fresh water after use so that it doesn't
continue to dissolve its anode plates when you're done using it.
When I was a kid I did a science experiment using a stack of copper
pennies and silver dimes (I think). By alternating the coins in the
stack and placing the stack in saltwater it definitely generated
electricity, but not much ... and the coins would get eaten up if they
were left there for long because it's the chemical reaction of the
different metals (electrolysis) that generates the electricity.
I'm sure it works, but I think it is an incomplete system for most uses
and way overpriced for what it actually provides.

Hi Alberto, If your looking for information on energy from the sea check-out www.energydaily.com they have new articles on that and other types of energy. Much good information:) & O.

Boats in the salt water use zinks to take the inpact of electrolysis
there is no free energy it takes more to make the plates then they
give back. This is like sticking a copper penney and a silver dime in
a lemmon and checking the current between. It works till one of the
coins is gone. Save your pennies and dimes.

Salt water can provide power by electrolysis but it is low power and
shortlived as stated. in the end you have dirty salt water and sludge
from the plates (garbage). Not worth the cost and nearly a scam with
off gassing to deal with. For the same price you could build a gas
generator with a lawnmower motor and junkyard altinator. A baterie if
maintained has more and better power and can be used again and again.
Don't waste your money. I think it should be removed and the sender
as well.

Hello Mike
I found this generator browsing on the internet and I remember the
pots Volta ever studied in high school. Anyway I think a big lie.
Imgine who would have to live by the sea settled forever the
production of energy. As I have no way in my country to obtain more
data is applying for the collaboration of you
Greetings
