there is scant storage space for the battery bank, but perhaps...
I think Bolger predicted 7.5hp would cruise at 6 mph, and he drew in a
second motor mount because a second motor could give peace of mind for
an additional push of speed for quick crossings of patches of open
water.
Nice looking boat.Since you can power a boat like that with only one horsepower why not think electric/solar with a small outboard for reserve power.Believe me,standing over 40hp diesel on an English narrowboat can get a bit wearing by the end of the day, even if it's only being operated at a fraction of it's capacity. One horse could pull a 70ft x 7ft boat carrying about 20tons,or 40tons if you had a butty attached

And along the visual lines of the Bolger canalboat is Petes Boat a Jim
Michalak design which is up a couple of notches in versatility and
capability but very close in ease of construction. Higher cost than I
perceive for Bolger's concept because of the strength needed to
support the sail rig and the more open water conditions it could
handle. One could skip the sail rig and cut some cost that way, or
add it at a future date.

The low horsepower is a great thing right now. I must admit that while I dislike the high gas prices, I don't mind not hearing the dual V8 powered, no exhaust monsters roar up and down Lake Michigan. Now if only high gas prices would force mufflers on Harleys, I could drive and boat in peace.

This simple, low horsepower, light weight 24 footer seems like it
would make a great family comfortable camping cruising platform.
