Re: Storm Petrel website coming soon, add your 2 cents
Just a 'wannabe' but serious enough to have sent for kit for stitch
and glue kayak as first project. I've already spotted Petrel as
possible project (after Teal?). Liked your boat a lot!
Problem is acess to building space. What depth is Petrel hull minus
cabin, minus keel? Can she be manouvered through a normal doorway on
her side? And how difficult to build versus other Bolger small boats?
Good luck with the site.

Hello Bolger enthusiasts,
You might have seen Matthew Long's postings mentioning my boat
(Bolger Storm Petrel, a 16' sharpie, in Bolger's "Different Boats"
book) over the last year.
The time has finally come, prompted by a web design class, to build a
site devoted to the Storm Petrel.
I seem to be one of the few who owns one, so I thought it would be a
service to Bolger fanatics to put together
a site devoted to this apparently rare and little known boat.
I am in the preliminary planning stages of the site, and am
looking for input from the Bolger community about
what you would like to see and learn about specific to the Storm
Petrel.
My first crack at organization includes the following categories:
- Introduction- what the site is about.
- Design/ Specifications- Perhaps a few statements from PCB,
both verbal and linear, assuming his permission.
Materials, size, etc, the usual you would expect to find in study
plans; uniqueor interesting features.
- Rig- sprit rig with boom- feature, rigging tips. Things I have
learned over a year of fiddling and tweaking.
- Handling - stable, trusty in a blow, a little sedate. A small boat
with big boat aspirations.
- History of my boat - built in 1981, back in the family after 20
years. I was lucky, I bought the boat for less than it would have
cost to build her.
Sea stories - a couple of my adventures on the high seas.
Other Storm Petrels - photos and stories from other Storm Petrel
owners, (links to their sites?)
Photos on the site will include overall shots, taken at various
points in the boat's life, detail shots of the hull and rig.
That's the basic idea, please send any requests or comments as soon
as possible, I'm on a deadline!
I'll post the url as soon as I have something presentable, I'll be
looking for comments as the work progresses. Alas, I have
no shop, but I have a fancy computer full of tools. I hope they can
help make a small contribution to the Bolger community.
Thanks for your help.
Marc, near the shores of the San Francisco Bay, where it has been
cold and foggy all day on July 2nd (!).
