What you may draw for water with the outboard down may just surprise you. They have a 8 to 10 inch prop and then you want 3 to 4 inches over the anti-ventilation plate or a bit more to make use it will not suck air when you are running hard. Then you want a few inches under the prop so you don't ding the blades. I don't think I'm to far off.
I not kidding you but my 17 foot fiberglass deep V skiff will plane with with a 9.9 long shaft. There were two of us on board and we were doing 8 kts. It sure shocked us. We played all most of the day on the river and didn't use a 6 gal can.
Over the next week or so I'm going to be digging her out from under the blackberry brambles that have grown up around her over the past 4 years. Then I'll start fixing her up again. The sad thing is she has not seen the water in over ten years. It's a good thing she is fiberglass. I have an older Johnson 60 horse to put on her. It's almost as old as the boat..
The hull was made in 67, and the Johnson is a 71 I think.

draw back to the boat I had was it needed about 24 to 30 inches of
water with the outboard down. What you have runs in what 14 inches or
so. And if you pole it what 6 inches?

Thanks Krissi,
I haven't checked the draft with the outboard down, but it couldn't be
more than 8 or ten inches.
A nice trip. Lots of pics on the blog.

Within the hour I plan to trailer my Thiel designed, though Bolger-
esque, Escargot boat down to Seattle's Lake Washington and go on a
short journey, perhaps for the day, perhaps overnight. I'll be heading
out to the Sammamish Slough.
http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ Sammamish_ River
I am going to try an experiment where I take pictures along the way and
post them to a practice blog I set up some time ago and then ignored.
http://big-velo. blogspot. com/
If you're interested in my boat or the river/slough feel free to check
in. Pictures will be added in real time throughout the day. I wasn't
sure if I should post, but then thought I'd love to see the favorite
cruising grounds of other boaters. This river is so shallow in places
that only Bolger type boats and kayaks can go here.
