Here is a brief history of what happened to my IDAHO.

My problem with her was I couldn't find indoor storage for her
during
the winter. So she lived outdoors under a tarp, which inevitably blew
off. The boat would then fill with rainwater and would then siphon it
out, retarp it and start the cycle over. After two seasons of this I
cut holed in the bottom to let the water out and fitted the holes
with self-bailers. This worked but I inevitable left the bailer open
when launching the boat and go through a Chinese fire drill every
time I launched, having to get the boat moving forward fast enough
for the self bailers to work before I sank.

Needless to say, this was rough service and I am not inclined to work
on a project after I finish it. I am always way into the next project
and don't want to be bothered with something as mundane as
maintenance. I also didn't know anything about motor maintenance
and
have an aversion to grease.

Finally, disaster struck. At the July, 4th wooden boat show at the
Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, the lower unit of my free 1964
Merc 45 froze up. I donated the motor to the Center and barrowed a 7
hp kicker for the show. This was pretty cool because I found out that
with only 7 hp the boat would still go about 14 mph. Wow, pretty
efficient for a 31 ft boat!

But after the show I was stuck with a boat I couldn't properly
store
with no motor. So I advertised it through the usual suspects for
selling Bolger boats and found a buyer in Spokane, WA, who had a big
shop to store Elizabeth Anne in, a dry environment and a huge lake to
enjoy the boat on. This buyer, bless his heart, did all of the
deferred maintenance and then some, making the boat prettier than I
ever would and repowering her with a 25 hp 4 stroke, the motor the
boat cried out for.

As far as I know my IDAHO is still in Spokane, providing her new
owners with as much enjoyment as the boat provided me in the four
years I owned her. Like all of the boats I have built (12) I miss
her, only a little less than my MICRO.
Bernie,

What happened to your Idaho? I think I remember that it was for sale a couple
years back.
