The content of that post sure sounds a lot like Auriga, except it
wasn't junk rigged (although we originally asked for that).

Hello Jon,

Thanks for your input. Sorry to hear that your sharpie commission
didn't meet expectations. This TANDEM could be closely related to
your AURIGA, as it was suppose to be about 50' long. I found the
reference to it at:

http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14219post #35

I got the idea that it was a finished design, not just partially
finished. I'd sure like to see the design of these Very Advanced
Sharpies (VAS? :-).

John

Without more information, I couldn't say for sure, but our recently
abandoned commission had a tandem sloop rig on a 50' modified sharpie
haull. It's two identical gaff sloop rigs in tandem, or looked at
another way, a schooner rig with enough spacing between the masts for
the main staysail to stand on a (more or less) permanenet headstay.
The idea was to get a lot of light air sail area without any one sail
being too large for one person to handle. Other advantages include
simplification of carrying spares. Disadvantages include increased
complexity and cost.

When it was originally proposed in 2001, Phil told me it should be
disucssed using schooner nomenclature, which makes sense to me since
everything about it could be described using existing schooner
terminology. Later, Susanne wrote that they wanted to start using
sloop nomenclature but prefixed with "fore" or "aft" depending on
which mast was being referred to. I thought this was unhandy,
unnecessary, and would actually become annoying over time since we'd
be forever be explaining what we meant to everyone else. I included
this concern in a long list of questions that went unanswered.

Hello all,

I've recently bumped into a reference for a Bolger sharpie called
TANDEM, but have not been able to find out anything about it. TANDEM
was billed as being an improved Advanced Sharpie -- post-AS29 and
AS39. Can anyone confirm that TANDEM plans exist and suggest a
direction for further information - other than Bolger himself?

Thanks,
John
