I built a Catfish Beachcruiser several years ago. It's a great boat for
semi-protected waters, but I would not use it out in the open. The
Catfish sails well, although it is not close winded. It's very fast off
the wind. It's a pretty boat too.
You could replace the tent with a cuddy, but I'm not sure it's a good
idea. The open cockpit space is nice, and it isn't really large enough
for both a cuddy and a cockpit. This boat is narrow waterline (which is
why it's so fast off the wind) that makes it a bit tiddly at anchor, and
anything you do to raise the center of gravity would only increase the
effect.
