Small Craft Workshop at Mystic

The recent sad news of Phil's death has been a shock to all those
who know and admire his work. There have been some suggestions for
a get-together to celebrate his life and art. I know this is awfully
short notice,
but I wanted to get out the message that next weekend is the annual
Small Craft Workshop at Mystic Seaport. This presents an opportunity
for those in the North East to come together for an informal memorial,
and
possibly to plan a more formal event for, say, the fall.

As Ben Fuller mentioned to me:

"Phil often came to the workshop and his boats more often. It might be a
good time to do some light discussion of a big Bolger gathering on the
Annisquam in the fall."

Here is some information about the Workshop: John Gardner Small Craft
Workshop, June 6-7. For the full picture go to

http://www.mysticseaport.org/

and click on "Small Craft Workshop" in the right hand column. On the
workshop
page you can download forms and there are more details if you click on
"Updates for 2009 participants". They would like you to pre-register
if possible,
but you can also register when you get there on Saturday (6th). There
is a fee
of $20. My understanding is that this gives you access to the Museum
also, at
least that is how it was in previous years. Also, I believe that on
Saturday afternoon,
for a couple of hours, the sheds where they keep the over 400 small
craft not
currently on display will be open to participants.

I've attended this in the past and have enjoyed it immensely. It is an
event well
worth supporting, and this might be a good way to kick off plans for
some kind
of permanent memorial to Phil.
