Cut thin slips of wood and cover them in glue and press then in to the gabs.
Let dry and then score any sticking out and break off, sand to finish.

There may be better ways, but I stand the piece on edge and dribble polyester
down the hole (oh, yes, plug it well on the other side).
I select my wood for fewer voids, so I've never gotten a void so large that I
wanted to mess with trying to fill it with wood. Some day I'm sure I'll open
up a surprise and have to fill it with wood before using the polyester.

I would use whatever glue you're using, thickened if necessary, with wood
slivers to fill the really bad ones.
