Pippo:
I've posted three more scans to the bolger boat plans file. These are the only drawings that fit in my scanner. Two are preliminary cartoons, showing a square front cabin. This early version was beamier, 9'5" as opposed to the final 7' 10". also, the topsides flare a bit in the preliminary while in the final version they are vertical. But they show the general approach and layout. The final profile shows the boat as it ended up. I've got better drawings, and will try to find a scanner that can handle them.

I meant to keep a detailed record of construction time, but didn't. My best guess is 400 to 500 hours, done over 14 months. I did order my ply prescarfed to the lengths I needed to make the hull. The basic hull took 100 to 120 hours, ready to roll over. The original keel was a hollow steel fin, made of stainless steel, with about 1,000 pounds of lead poured into the bottom -- I contracted that part out. The steel at the bottom warped a bit when the hot lead hit it, but that didn't seem to cause much of a problem.

I think she was seductively attractive in the original configuration. Her only bad angle was dead astern, where the full-width cabin looked a little boxy sitting on that fine, slender hull. BTW, the picture with the article showed the boat after the original 7 foot draft keel had been shortened to 5.5 feet, to make life along the Gulf a little easier. Some extra lead was added to compensate for the shallower draft.

Hello Gary, good to hear from you. Yes, I had seen that drawing and the movies... I just wanted to see a more proper cartoon of the sail plan including hull and appendages.
What triggered my enthousiasm has been the photo you published in your tribute to PCB, where the original "Le Dulci-Mer" is ready to be splashed. The hull lines and the original cabin are just perfect to my eye.
BTW: did you really spend only 400-500 hours to build her? How's the original deep fin made?

Pippo:
There's a low resolution scan of the plans for the modified cabin version at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bolger_study_plans_only/files/Ostar%2030%2C%20another%20design/

Also, if you search the boat's name, Le Dulci-Mer, at www.duckworksmagazine.com, you'll find some stories I've written about it there. There are also some videos on YouTube, search for Bolger and Design #459.

After 22 years, I'm still enamored with the boat, but most people find even the modified version, with a higher and longer cabin, way too spartan. After all, who ever heard of a 30-foot boot with only two single berths?

VERY nice tribute,a good companion to Jim Michalak's.

By the way, Le Dulci-Mer is an incredible boat. I hadn't see her ever before. Are there any cartoons/drawings available in this forum or in the overflows?
