Re: A Lenihan kind of story?

Hi Bill,

Sorry to report that it was a faux Lenihan sighting you experienced, although the description would certainly fit, except for the beard which comes and goes.Nevertheless, it would have been one hell of trip had I made it that far!!

Lestat, as far as I know,continues/remains under the fine stewardship of Nels(the Prairie Pirate) now out in British Columbia. Don't know if Nels has actually gotten around to sailing her yet but hope does spring eternal.Perhaps Lestat should be re-named to Rip Van Winkle and will one day awake to sail once more:)

Thanks for thinking of me.

Sincerely,

Peter Lenihan, the real one, from along the shores of the St.Lawrence river........

I've gotten accustomed to fielding all sorts of odd questions from people who barely understand sailboats and cannot get over a boat without a pointy bow. Quite a few people assume it's an antique sailboat, and one guy insisted that my Ohio registration numbers were "old" and indicated a very old boat. Too bad I was assigned the numbers in 2007 when I launched. Anyway, the people are nice and I enjoy talking with them. If you don't like talking with strangers, do not build a Bolger box.

He proceeds to tell me that he saw one exactly like it, a few years ago, in the North Channel of Lake Huron. I'm initially skeptical, but he insists- cat yawl, no jib, slab sides, and a flat bottom. He knows sailboats. I ask a few questions. He replies, "hull was green. Fellow was sailing with his girlfriend. He played guitar. I later saw the guy and his boat in Chicago." I ask a few more questions. Ends up the skipper had a beard and glasses. He was from Canada.

Sounds more like Mike Wagner in his AS-29, same hull color...

Back in late May I relaunched my Long Micro. I'm something of an odd duck at my marina because I am the only sailboat this far down the Harbor (East Harbor, on the Ohio shore of Lake Erie). As we line my LM up for its launch a fellow comes over, very excited, and says, "I know that boat." He proceeds to tell me that he saw one exactly like it, a few years ago, in the North Channel of Lake Huron. I'm initially skeptical, but he insists- cat yawl, no jib, slab sides, and a flat bottom. Lenihan? Was this fabled skipper you? I didn't know you had cruised the North Channel AND made the journey to Chicago in Lestat? Or is this a faux Lenihan sighting?

Inquiring minds would like to know.
