Re:Bolger Memorial Weekend. - Please shoot video!

Thanks HJ

Will look forward to the youtube footage when it is up. Great to see these images. We had our own little Phil Bolger Memorial weekend on Port Stephens at Pindimar (NSW, Aust) and the weather was perfect and the tides were perfect.

Put the Micro in off the beach on Saturday at high tide at 9am and took her out of the water again on Sunday at around 10am (after a final sail, as we had to get back to Sydney later in the day) and just kept thinking of what was happening in Gloucester. Not quite at the same time, I guess, but near enough!

My camera has a pretty good video. I realized as I watched the boats in motion that
just as Bruce's freeship images gives us a better understanding of the 3D shape
seeing then in motion gives us so much more then a static no motion shot.

The bad news is I know I didn't shoot enough and I won't be home to pull it off the
chip and get it uploaded for a week or more. I am driving a car up the ALCAN to
Skagway and the ferry home.

Bruce and others should have some good stuff up soon, the weather was incredible
and the lighting was occasionally spectacular.

On the emotions of the weekend, I still am digesting and thinking. Sure glad I was
there.

Thinking of Phil, thinking of you Susanne, and of all in Gloucester.  What a beautiful day! - Bill Kreamer

Trailer & car) parking is available at the Dun Fudgin ramp on Emerson St behind the high school, $5 per day. It's a good ramp, accessible in all tides, though there's a stiff 2-knot tidal current in the Annisquam River and you have to get the drawbridge tender to raise the road & RR bridge on Channel 13. A little hairy for a motorless Micro sailer like me.

The GMHC dock was a good overnight spot, quiet and only a couple of late-night revelers passing through. This morning, there's a spectacularly clear blue sky with a crisp NW breexe, gusting to 30 knots. The red small craft warning pennant flaps vigorously on the adjacent Coast Guard mast. There'll be a reef in the main today!

Yes please, how about some youtube videos to watch

It's Saturday 19th September here on the east coast of Australia and at high tide 9am this morning we put our Micro, Matilda Jean in the water and sailed along the bay for an hour or so although our sail was that brief because of some unseen rot in the mainsheet block anchor point. So we took the main in & motored on thinking of Phil Bolger and what is about to happen in Gloucester. It's now 2pm Saturday so I'll take the Brick out now to round things off a bit.

Good luck and best wishes to you all in Gloucester

Thanks for arranging this Susanne, in the midst of everything else. I will be there with my Micro, the 2-by-2. It is green-hulled with a white deck (built by David Jost and launched as the "Firefly"). Looking forward to paying my respects to Phil and being part of the Bolger flotilla on Sunday. If anyone wants to go for a sail on Sat before the service, please call my cell at 617-823-8260.

mooring bouys available in the inner harbor, first come first serve $25 a night 978
282-3012. The dinghy dock is at the harbormasters float. The GMHC Susanne is the
Gloucester Marine Heritage and is right next to the Harbormasters office.

Overnight trailer parking is going to be an issue.

I look forward to seeing lots of photos and hearing lots of reports.

All of us whose lives have been touched by this man will be there in
spirit.

These days I work a job that won't let me attend the memorial weekend, at least this year.

But tomorrow I'll be covering two boat-related things for the paper here in Maryland, a gathering of tug-yachties in Rock Hall and a community padding/kayak sail on the Chester River.

So I'll be with y'all in spirit. And give my regards to Suzanne.

I heatily echo Kevin! Work schedule and some other factors precluded even considering attending, but you all will be in my thoughts all weekend, and I'm going to try to get Le Dulci-Mer out for a memorial sail, saying a thanks for that special richness Phil brought to those who knew him, in person or through his work. Best wishes.

I recall mention, made somewhere between Tortoise and Cagliostro, of sharing the odd bottle of red.
I second that! Did Phil have a favorite drink? Since I can't be there, I would like to raise a glass of it in honor this weekend. Even if it is milk.

GMHC just cleared tying up overnight on a First-Come First-Serve basis along either pier.
No great comforts, but we should be able to keep toilets accessible over night.
Along the marine railway piers there are no floats and you'll ride up and down the pilings.
So some line-tending over the 9-foot tide will be likely there.
Float is obviously the easiest, rafting fine, as long as we don't block the Harbormaster's float across the way.
Good news overall.  Good point to start out for the Sunday cruise.
The tent will go up tomorrow.
The Stone is being set right now at DOLLIVER MEMORIAL CEMETARY.

See you on Saturday,  Susanne
