Harry, I don't know. I am pretty sure that the above water portion
will weigh enough to sink the below water portion. If not, it would
be a simple matter to add a view pieces of lead as ballast.
Man thats cool looking, is there weight to sink them all the way, or is
it even necessary?

The louvered motor cover on the stern serves a multiple purposes. It
is aesthetic I think, serving to obscure the outboard motor from view,
and improving the overall looks. And the looks of this boat are an
important feature, as it is intended to be a 'head turner' suitable to
take out my teenage girl and friends for posing on the lake, and a
good looking boat matters when posing on the lake with teenagers. The
second purpose, (sorry no photo), is that the louver assembly swings
down making a really effective series of boarding steps. This is per
the PB&F design, and yes the swing down boarding steps function is
really clever, ...it works great too. Perhaps a third reason is that
the entire configuration of the stern assembly distances the propeller
from the vicinity of a water skier. And a fourth reason, I am
guessing, is it is integral to the design to keep the motor and fuel
plenum visually obscure while remaining well ventilated while at the
same time directing any fuel fumes and carbon monoxide well clear from
the interior of the boat.

Responding to other questions, I have not been urgently working on
this boat, time spent so far is the spare time of three years, with
sincere attempts to not neglect my day job or my family life. I feel
it is bad luck to try to predict a launch date, but there are getting
to be very few other things remaining to be done to complete her.
A beautiful job , Bruce. But what's the thinking on the serrated stern, please?

That's looking really nice. You must be anxious to get it afloat - when do you expect to launch?

Jon
Congratulations on SPYDER's progress.  As Bruce stated a while back, she should strike a fine pose at a fraction of the fuel-burn per hour of good times.  At this rate of progress, we'll see her running in '10 for sure.

Hi All

Another question. One photo of the stern appears to show a set of louvres, or perhaps 5 rudders, behind the outboard motor. What are they for? It seems like a lot of extra work and weight just for decoration.

Bruce:
That is one heck of a project. Great progress for sure. How long have you been working on it?

Thanks for the compliment. I hope I don't regret it, but yes the
steering wheel is on center. I had rational reasons, to long to
relate now. It is possible to stand with left hand on the wheel and
right hand on the throttle.

FANTASTIC Bruce! Must be getting exciting to be so close to the end!?

One question, and perhaps it is just the angle of the picture but the steering wheel appears to be right smack in the middle of the console without any seat behind it and up close while the engine controls appear way over on the starboard side almost as if you either sit and play with the controls while someone else stands and steers or you get used to a lot of stretching while driving her.Am I see things correctly?
