Re: [bolger] First Whalewatcher

I'm reading the group messages backwards this morning. Already wrote one to Wilderness. chiming in now because I think I see where the historical error occurs. First, PCB designs a boat for George Anger, who wanted a bigger BW but also an outside cockpit. Some time after Anger's death, Elrow LaRowe or Bernie Wolfard wants to include the design in the plans business, and somebody comes up with the name Whalewatcher. I recall Phil telling me this about the naming of the design, which had no name in the Anger phase. It is very likely, I think, that the boat advertised by Wolfard was the original boat. I believe it went unsold for a number of years and then was purchased, I believe from Anger's widow, by my acquaintance Charles Raynor. As if the thing was a curse, Chuck finds that he is to die before doing anything with the hull, already rotten, and passes it on to me. And so on. Still alive, Mason

Subject:[bolger] First Whalewatcher

The first Whalewatcher the one built for Elroe was build before 1990. It also was built not in New York, but in Maryland I think. If it launched twenty yrs later makes me suspect that it was another boat built not Elroes boat, but it is possible that it was stored for twenty yrs and then finished. I would love to hear the story of it. Bernie Wolffred who owned Common Sense Designs advertised it for sale in his newsletter and I know the aprox yr because I was divorced in '90 and was stilled married when Elroe died.
