Dynamite mentions in his book that Big Tort has been used for other
purposes ashore. Can be used as a cradle for the little kids while you
rock them to sleep with a toe against one end. When its party time it
can be tipped on its side and used as a bar. "How can you beat that?" he
adds.

Bigger is not always better considering that there are trade offs that
come with size, you mentioned the tight fit in the parking space
carport requirements. Tortoise stores very compactly stood up on end,
leaving room for the car to park. That said, both Elegant Punt and
the Tortoise have the longwise saddle seat which provide much needed
versitility for finding just the exact place needed to position your
weight lengthwise in those boats. And, just speaking my unfounded
opinion now as I have not built a full size Elegant Punt or rowed one.
Still, I have a hunch that the full width bottom of the Tortoise
might give a bit more stability. Believe it or not, I find it
possible to stand up in my Tortoise with some sense of comfort and
stability and I weigh 200 lbs.
I've built an Elegant Punt, and it is a fine, little ship. I used to
row it with two adults and two small kids (4 and 6) with no trouble.
Sailing with one big guy would be no problem.
I weigh 225 and have sailed a Brick with another, full-sized guy
(probably 180 lbs) and we were high and dry.

A little help is needed.
Maybe the Tortoise is too small for me. I do remember my 4 person raft and how it made me feel even more the elephant then I am. One day I set out from the breakwater just north of the Queen Mary. Soon I was out with the big boats, more like container ships. Of course the harbor patrol was a bit upset and I turned around and headed back to shore. So remembering that little boat maybe a 6'5" Tortoise may not be the right boat. If the beam is only 36" and I'm 25' wide, oh dear.
So on to something else. I will take a look at the Rubens Nymph, and the Elegant Punt. There was a nice boat designer who put his plans for a 7' Apple Pie on the web for free.
Then there is the PD Racer to look at.
Thanks again for your kind thoughts
