As a Bobcat owner (but not builder, I'm afraid), I'll offer some lessons from my experience.

The most annoying aspects of my boat are the places the owner deviated from the plans. Like replacing the main sheet cleat with a rotating cam cleat.

The original plans don't include deck cleats, other than one at the bow. Nowhere to hang fenders. Nowhere to tie mooring lines. I think it needs at least one deck cleat all the way aft (both sides) and one at the widest point.

The original plans lack details for the centerboard. Just as I finished building a new centerboard, I found a detail diagram on the internet. Let me know if you need help finding it.

The boat lacks secondary propulsion: it won't row, and there's no good place to put a motor. I intend to add a sculling oar; maybe that will work well.

The bilge is hard to drain thoroughly. I've thought about adding drain plugs. There'd need to be 2 and that wouldn't be enough to keep the bilge completely empty in the rain.

A friend who is building a Bobcat made his mast with 8 1x1 strips, with a V cut in one side. It looked like a better approach than the one in Dynamite's book.

On mine, where the mast rubs on the mast step is a trouble spot. The finish on the mast comes off. The wood gets a little beat up and wants to split. Not sure what to do with that.

On mine, where the mast rubs on the deck partner picks up a lot of paint from the deck (my mast is varnished). A bit of leather there would be a good idea.

It's too heavy for one person to pick up. Two strong people can do it, in a pinch. Better 3 or 4. But there aren't a lot of good handholds, either.

I actually love this boat, so don't get me wrong.

Corrected for silly errors:

Briefly, it requires 10 sheets of 1/4"plywood, plus some scraps of 1/4" and 1/2", 20 board feet of 3/4"squarefor framing and gunwales, etc, and a lot (haven't calculated how much) 11/2"wideclearest available spruce, fir, or pine for the mast and spars.
