Re: Tacking side panels to frames
book, using one inch wire nails which are easy to remove. There is a
photo on page 58 showing Harold tacking them in place on a Cartopper.
Wire ties could also be used, to close up the side panels. Or a
combination of both wire and duct tape.

George,
The cleats on the molds need to be firmly attached. It doesn’t matter if the attachment of the cleats to the molds is temporary or permanent. I use sheetrock screws because they are self tapping and can be driven with a power drill or screwdriver, but most fasteners will work.
The cleats need to go on the aft side of the forward frames and on the forward side of the aft frames—either side of the midship frame.
Have fun.

Subject:[bolger] Tacking side
panels to frames
Hi everybody,
I am about to start building a Bobcat. I ordered the plans and the book with
Dynamite Payson and bought the plywood this week. I also have the instant boat
building book. But one thing is not really clear for me yet and I hope somebody
can give me a small hint.
I have read in the book by Dynamite Payson that cleats should be tacked to the
end of the frames to drive in the nails / screws through the side- /
bilgepanel. Well, for me it is not clear if these cleats should be tacked there
temporarily as I cant see any cleats on Dynamits pictures. On the other hand I
guess it is nearly impossible to drive in nails in the edge of a 1/4 ply.
Thanks for help even this might be a stupid question....
