yes. I had a 70's vintage Johnson 4 hp at one time and converted it to a long shaft version which worked well with this boat. the transom is just a tad too long for the 15" shaft. your 2.5 should be fine.

However, yesterday I rowed the 25 year old Pointy Skiff out to an island on a nearby lake with my daughter and 4 of her high school buddies so that they could film an English class project (Lord of the Flies, don't ask...)
