Re: Old Shoe advice

Charlie.

A small e-mail group of past, present and future Oldshoe builders
exists. Warren atKF4call@...is our leader/facilitator. I
encourage you to join.

I have been building an Oldshoe since early Spring. I have built
glued lapstrake and stripped canoes in the past and building Oldshoe
is simple in comparison. I should complete it sometime in August. I
need to paint the boat, and the rain and humidity in Eastern PA is
slowing me down The only reason for the length of the building
project is uncooperative weather and a busy work schedule. The only
significant changes from the plans that I made were using 1/2" rather
than 1/4" plywood on the bottom. Also, I have added a small cuddy in
place of the front storage compartment.

I am planning on building an Old Shoe this fall as a daysailer for
myself and my wife. I've built many boats over a 30 year career. I
am wondering however if anyone who has built an Old Shoe might have
any advice? I know from experience that each design has some room
for improvement or detriment depending on the builders ability. I
would love talking with anyone with an opinion or experience with the
Old Shoe. Thanks, Charlie.
