Ditto that. If you want the boat to float on her lines (and you do)
the weight should be the same made of steel or wood. The freeship
model has a displacement weight of 6,600 lbs.
Bud,

no, I can't because we never did this conversion.  In light of my references to adding ballast, empty weight might be the same - give or take.  But that needs deeper examination, not doable at the moment on this end.

Hello Susanne,

Can you tell me what the empty weight of ply built Col. H.G. Hasler with no anchor, anchor chain and gear on board is?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Walter,
it is too hazy today to see you across Massachusetts Bay...

Specs for #635 are:
20' length, 8' beam, 2' draft, 313 feet of sail on tabernacled masts, 6350lbs displacement at DWL i.e. with load.

All summer I've been sketching out various variations of Micro with a box keel for exactly the reasons you've stated Susanne. I''m planning to build a 2/3 scale model to see how it works out.
fred s.
I sure hope we see a ply #635 Col. H.G. Hasler model.  This is one of my favorite designs. Thank you so much for this reply.

In response to Prairiedog's input in June on the topic and his comparison with MICRO (Navigator), I should add that the boxkeel configuration should offer more speed due to that stretched-out displacement.  It most certainly should carry more supplies for long cruises and allow fore&aft standing headroom for the ergonomics laid out in #635.  HASLER is indeed a bigger boat than even the LONG MICRO.  Will we see a LONG MICRO Navigator sail in company with a ply #635 for comparison ?
